SWIM SEASON is in high gear!
It's not too late for your swimmer to be part of the IROCKETS Team. Sign up at IROC today or call 334-8511.
For additional details, please call Coach Julie Gunn or Coach Heather Grieves at IROC at 802-334-8511.
Welcome to all of our newest and returning IROCKETS!!! We had a wonderful turnout at our first swim team practice and we're looking forward to another great year.
Practices
We have a very exciting and very busy swim season ahead of us, so if swimmers or their families have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact any of our coaches, IROC staff, or parent supporters. Pool practices are held on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 5:45 pm each week, and land practice sessions will start on October 18th at 5:45pm. Swimmers, remember that you are expected to be in the pool and ready to swim at 5:45pm, so make sure that you arrive at IROC 10-15 minute early to get changed and on the pool deck.
Parent Meeting Notes
During the parent meeting tonight we talked about swim team basics including USA Swimming and community meets, practice attendance (2 times per week of pool practice is optimal, plus land practice if possible), swim etiquette, pool rules, holiday practices, and making sure that parents update coaches about any swimmer with a medical condition such as asthma, epilepsy, or anything else that we need to know about from a healthcare safety standpoint.
While Your Child is Swimming During Practice
While practice is in session, the pool deck is only open to coaches and swimmers. To ensure that the team gets the most out of each practice, we ask that any accompanying family members enjoy a seat poolside while your swimmers are swimming. There are many strategic locations where you can sit and observe your swimmer from a distance, and you are also welcome to make use of the lobby area or use any of the public computers available there. By keeping the pool deck as clear as possible, it allows our coaching staff to have easy access to all areas of the pool, keeps the swimmers and coaches focused on each other, and ensures maximum safety for the entire team.
Welcome Packet
Below you will find a digital copy of the handout you received at our first practice and it's also posted on the web site. We look forward to seeing our swimmers and their families at our next practice on Wednesday night at 5:45 pm.
USA Swimming
This year, we will be attending USA Swimming meets in addition to community meets around the state of Vermont. Teresa Sinel will be at practice on Wednesday and Thursday night this week to help answer questions and fill out USA Swimming forms. She will be sending the forms to New England Swim by 10/15 so please feel free to pick up a form, fill it out, and return it to Teresa with a check this week or early next week.
Special Announcement
Adam Lodewyk has been selected to be the IROCKETS Team Captain this year. Congratulations, Adam! Don't forget to come up with some good cheers and feel free to talk to Coach Ted about pointers for motivating the team during meets ("GO GO GO GO GO!").
IROCKETS Website and Facebook Page
A wealth of information can be found on our website at www.irockets.org and we are pleased to announce that this year, the IROCKETS Swim Team is now on Facebook (just log into your Facebook account, search for IROCKETS Swim Team, and add us as a Friend). You will also receive regular emails and ample reminders as we have news to share and upcoming events to announce. As you can tell, we are committed to keeping families up to date on all swim meets, practices, weather cancellations, and other events that we plan throughout the year.
See you at the pool!
Warmly,
The Coaches, Staff, and Parent Supporters of the IROCKETS Swim Team
