Unit 3-Energy and Momentum

In unit 3 we learned about energy and momentum and we cover a couple of concepts.  We learned about impulse and momentum and how to use newton's second law to prove that they are equal. We also learned about impulse change in momentum theorem. This theorem states that the change in an object's momentum is equal to the impulse applied to the object..  We also got the chance to look more into momentum and to learn about conservation of momentum, which is an isolated system that may be transferred during collisions, but not destroy.

We also learned about work which is a measurement of force multiplied by the displacement in the same direction of force. We learned how to calculate force even when the displacement was at and angle. In those cases we would use a different equation from W= d*m; we would use W= d*m (cos of angle).  Through using gyroscopes we got the chance to learn about angular momentum which means the momentum of objects traveling in a circular path. We learned that angular momentum and centripetal force its what allows the gyroscopes to stay balance, and to allow many things in the real world to stay balance.

Lastly we learned about three types of energies and the law of the conservation of energy. This law states that energy cannot be created nor destroy. The three types of energies were Mechanical energy, kinetic energy. These three energies are very different, but they interact with one another and transfer into one another. The total Mechanical  energy is just the total kinetic energy plus the total potential energy. Now the kinetic energy is the energy in movement and the potential energy is the energy of position. For all the three energies we learned its formulas and how to use them to calculate energy and to prove the law of conservation of energy.

This Article is about a kinetic energy missile that was succesfully tested. It demonstrated the missiles maximum kinetic energy.

This image above shows how the defensive player applies a force for a given amount of time to stop the momentum of the player with the ball.
