About Us

IP Yorkshire is a forum for people living or working in Yorkshire and Humberside with an interest in intellectual property. It is managed by NIPC Ltd. ("the company") which is a private company owned and managed by members of NIPC,

"Intellectual property" is the collective name for the bundle of rights that protect "intellectual assets", that is to say investment in branding, design, technology and creative works.   Those rights include 

  • patents for inventions, 
  • trade marks for names, devices, initials that are capable of distinguishing one business's goods or services from those of others,
  • registered designs and unregistered design rights,
  • copyrights for original artistic, dramatic, literary and musical works, broadcasts, films and sound recordings and typographical arrangements of publications,
  • rights in performances for actors, dancers, musicians, singers and other performers, and
  • rights of action at common law to prevent breaches of confidence and misrepresentations.


IP Yorkshire brings together 
  • those who create such assets: scientists, technologists, engineers and private inventors; brand consultants, graphic designers and marketers, artists, composers, dancers, film makers, musicians and performing artists and designers of all kinds;
  • entrepreneurs who make them available to the public such as manufacturers, publishers and broadcasters;
  • business support professionals
  • angels, venture capitalists and other investors, and of course
  • barristers, solicitors, patents and trade mark attorneys and other professionals.
We communicate with those groups on-line through the IP Yorkshire blog, newsletters and the IP Yorkshire groups on facebook, Linkedin and twitter. 

We hold regular monthly IP clinics in Barnsley, Bradford, Halifax, Huddersfield, Leeds, Rotherham and York where clients can get a free half hour of an IP professional's time.
