Projects
Updated - 2 Jan 2012
Members are encouraged to become actively involved in one or more of the many projects that the Society undertakes from time to time.  These projects are for the purpose of creating resources for the Society by collating and compiling some of the vast amounts of local knowledge and history.  These resources when produced for sale in book, microfiche or computer format provide funds for additional research resources for the Society.

As many of the projects are ongoing new data is constantly being added and it is advisable to check the resources from time to time.

The Society is most appreciative of the time and effort that the volunteer Members of the Society put into the various Projects.

Mine Workers Muster

Little is known of the history of the original convict limestone quarry workers.  Equally there appears to be little known of the pioneer miners of coal and metalliferous fields in the Ipswich district.  To recognise the contribution that these workers gave to the district, many of whom lost their life in the process, the Society commenced the Mine Workers Muster in 1989 by collecting relevant information about the mineworkers who worked in the area, including people still working in the mines.

It is a computer databased compilation of all mineworkers including the miners, owners, managers or anyone else associated with the Ipswich district mines.  The database includes names, dates of birth, death and marriages for the workers and their spouses as well as their work details.

If you have family, or know of others, who have worked in the local mining industry, and wish to submit genealogical and work details for the Mine Worker, please complete and mail a Mine Workers Muster form to the Secretary.

By submitting a Mine Workers Muster form the details will be added to the thousands of names presently in the database.

Your contribution to the Mine Workers Muster will create a great resource for all researchers with interests in the mines and of the workers.  (Ongoing project)
