Updated - 30 Dec 2011
The Ipswich Genealogical Society was Queensland’s first genealogical society. It was formed in 1977 and became incorporated in 1985 and known as the Ipswich Genealogical Society Inc.

The Society has an average membership approaching 200 and is managed and operated by a group of dedicated volunteers.

The Society has an extensive range of resources catering for all novices and experienced historians and specialising in resources for Ipswich and district. Resources are also held for all Australian states and overseas.
If required the Society will conduct paid research of the resources held by the Society.

The Society maintains links with other genealogical, family history and historical societies throughout the world. The Society has reciprocal rights with a number of other Societies to which Members may visit and carry out their research. Some restrictions may apply.

Members are encouraged to become actively involved in one or more of the many projects that the Society undertakes from time to time. These projects are for the purpose of creating resources for the Society by collating and compiling some of the vast amounts of local knowledge and history. These resources when produced for sale either in book, microfiche or computer format provide funds for additional research resources.

The Society publishes and distributes its own magazine Bremer Echoes, free of charge, three times per year, to its members and other Societies throughout Australia and the British Isles. Members may submit their research inquiries, histories and interesting stories to the Editor for publication.

The Society is well known throughout the local community and enjoys a good working relationship with the Ipswich City Council and the Ipswich Historical Society.
