www.juniorinventor.com will carry pages of ideas and freely downloadable project sheets designed to enthuse children, parents and teachers to explore and experiment with science and design technology topics intended to make learning fun and equip them to become the inventors of tomorrow.
As far as possible, materials and equipment suggested will be freely available, or at minimal cost, but credit will also be given to the excellent commercially available kits available and packs containing ready printed project sheets and materials will also be available to order and purchase on line from the site and from links to other commercial suppliers.
A forum will be set up to enable pupils, inventors, teachers and parents to discuss ideas and present their own suggestions and content for the site. A newsboard will carry details of relevant events, competitions and exhibitions etc. Links will be provided to world wide sites providing related ideas and information. Guidance will be provided as to how some of the activities relate to National Curriculum but rather than to be a curriculum led course, the intention is to encourage the Junior Inventors to explore as their imagination takes them.
Although primarily aimed at children in Key Stage 2, much of the content will be suitable for younger and older children.
“Junior Inventor” has been initiated by Chris Robinson. With thirty years teaching experience, mainly as a deputy head teacher in junior and middle schools, he has specialised in science and technology and served for a number of years as an advisor for this subject for the 3-13 age range. He has served on national committees and spoken at international conferences.
It is hoped to receive contributions from many others from all sectors of life.
This could be the start of a national network of after school clubs, or it could just fizzle out. It depends on the levels of support received, both in terms of contributors and possible sponsorship.
