Grading

 Lab Manual  50%
 1) lab exercise presentation at each mtg.
 2) collected after first exam
 3) collected last day of lab
 Final Presentation     50%
 1) final presentation proposal
 2) peer critique (25%)
 3) final presentation paper (25%)
 
Lab Manual
1) Pick up your BOT105 Lab Manual from Professional Image at the corner of University Ave. and King St.
2) Class syllabus, homework, needed lab materials and reference material will be provided in the lab manual.
3) Lab Manuals will be handed in a] after the first exam and b] the last day of lab.
4) Attendance to Labs will facilitate completion of the BOT105 lab manual.

Final Presentation & Paper
The final presentation & paper will be up to the student to determine what format they will execute but regardless of format the required elemets are needed in order to recieve at least a "C". The final presentation will be 10 minutes which will include references.  The paper will be one page single spaced with 3 non-internet sources (interview, book, newspaper, journal).  Both items are needed to calculate 50% of your grade.
 
Required elements*:
1) Latin name of plant, family
2) Location where plant may be found (mauka/makai, Hawai'i or elsewhere, Longs)
3) Plant description (lifecycle, flower, fruit, seed, etc.)
4) Biogeography, Origin of each plant history of movement and current distribution
 
Possible formats*:
1) Web page
    a. cover page with plant imagery, Latin binomial
    b. related plant information links, include related links and sort into themes
    c. ethnobotany, discuss human interactions with each plant. List culture and cite references for ALL statements.
    d. biogeography, origin of each plant, historical movement and current distribution
2) Artifact Project- produce an artifact based upon plant materials, how is it used and what is it used for
3) Creative Project- is proposed by the student and approved by the lab instructor
