INK SPELL WRITERS Writing for Children and Young Adults CLASSES AND WORKSHOPS WRITING FOR CHILDREN WORKSHOP: Connecting Character and Plot Coming in Spring 2012 Fort Mason Center, San Francisco, CA
This workshop is a wonderful opportunity for a small group of writers who would like to have their best work critiqued in a safe and supportive setting. Reading others’ work critically is also an important part of learning the writer’s craft.
The instructors will focus on character development, and connecting character and plot by using character desire to drive your story. They will also cover issues and challenges that arise in the work presented.
How it will work:
1. Submit up to 20 pages four weeks ahead of our meeting (we'll give you the due date) along with a paragraph detailing what your work in progress is: YA or middle grade, novel or short story, fantasy, science fiction, etc. 2. If desired, submit a one-page synopsis, and up to 6 questions that you would like to have answered along with your submitted pages, or simply request a specific kind of feedback. 3. Read, note comments and be ready to discuss other participants’ 20 pages by the meeting date (TBA).
Limited to 6 students.
Each participant’s pages will be discussed for at least 20 minutes. You will have time to ask questions at the end. You will also receive written feedback from the instructors on your submission.
All work needs to be properly formatted using standard manuscript style (double spaced, one inch margins, ragged right, NYT or courier font, and one half page down on first page). Price: $110 [Former students: $100 ] Instructors: Sharry Wright and Ann Jacobus Contact inkspellwriters@gmail.com to register or with questions. |
