Meditation The course covers posture and props (cushion, bench, chair), two meditation techniques that lead to deep calm and inner stability, and also ways and means (strategies) to keep progressing in your meditation practice. It is also an opportunity to meet new (meditation) friends and to stay in touch with an informal meditation group. The meditation course is presented in a secular way, it does not require or assume that you are interested in becoming a Buddhist, nor does it require the adoption of any religious beliefs. The course is intended to give you a good foundation in meditation practice so that you, and others, may enjoy the benefits of meditation in your life (yes, other people will also benefit from your meditation practice!). | This course is also taught over five classes and covers the core concepts and teachings of Buddhism, especially as expressed in early schools. It will give you an understanding of the Buddhist perspective on life and human values and will be of interest to dharma students as well as those who simply wish to broaden their knowledge of the diverse world in which we live. The course in Buddhism is for anyone interested in knowing something more about Buddhist teaching and learning new ways to look at life with the intention of enhancing our ability to live. Again, it is not assumed that you are interested in becoming a Buddhist....you may simply wish to broaden your knowledge of the world in which you live or find out if there are some concepts that you may find useful in dealing with stress in your life. The course is mostly centered on the core doctrines of Buddhism as presented by the early Buddhist schools. |
