This project is a quantitative study of current street lighting technologies in the unincorporated Clark County area. Clark County Public Works Traffic Operation Division is planning on evaluating new technologies such as induction lighting in order to analyze efficiency, maintenance and energy consumption reduction costs. In this assessment, various street lighting technologies are considered through careful analysis of the different features involved such as cost, wattage, life cycle, lumens, energy consumption, and maintenance. Furthermore, this study extends to include human factors and safety analysis of street lighting. Local and national case studies are considered to better understand the performance and implications of the proposed technology.
Clark County Public Works - Street lighting Clark County Public Works is responsible for the maintenance, upgrade and repair of streetlights and electrical service points throughout Clark County’s unincorporated areas. Clark County Public Works Traffic Management also provides streetlight maintenance services on state highways within the unincorporated areas of Clark County through an intergovernmental agreement with Nevada Department of Transportation. Streetlight poles are replaced when severely damaged form accidents or when potential safety and liability problems exist due to deterioration. Funding is provided form an annual streetlight pole replacement program. This annual replacement program also provides for burned-out or vandalized lamps and the replacement of stolen copper wire form the streetlight systems. Over 10 years ago, the Board of county commissioners authorized the funding of the Streetlight Modernization Program. Through this program, older incandescent and mercury vapor systems are replaced with high-pressure sodium luminaries and multiple circuits for improved energy efficiency. The Public Works street lighting crew completes work in-house that include retrofits and small projects, while larger projects replacement of circuits in the following areas: University Crest, Paradise Vista, Manhattan, Hawaiian Park, Frontier, Los Cerritos, Sunrise, Indios, Coral Gardens, and El Canto. There are a total of 574 streetlight poles which will be modernized in these areas. |
