| It is my pleasure to be approaching my 28th year of teaching. I spent 15 years in the Santee School District, teaching general education and special education at the junior high level. This is my 13th year at West Hills. I enjoy Padre baseball, Aztec football and basketball, gardening and going to the beach. I teach English and study skills in the Individual Instruction department and collaborate with general education teacher in freshmen English and junior U.S. history. In Individual Instruction 9th grade English we will teach the students to write a four paragraph essay in the West Hills format. We will read Of Mice and Men, Romeo and Juliet, Lord of the Flies, and several short stories. Modification will be made so that the curriculum is accessible to all students in the class. My study skills class allows students to complete their homework with two teachers in the classroom to provide help. Students will also have weekly lessons to teach new study skills and reinforce previous learning. Blue slips(weekly grade sheets) and binder checks will be done on alternating weeks. In my collaborative classes, the general education teachers provide the expertise in the subject manner and I adapt and modify to make the lessons accessible to all the students in the classroom. Support may be; providing written notes, using graphic organizers, reteaching the material in small groups, anything that is appropriate and reasonable for the students to learn and use the lessons taught.
