The maximum page width or height allowed by QuarkXPress is 48”. QuarkXPress does not support a first

page left of the spine unless an even Section Format has been set. QuarkXPress does not support an additional

“slug” area in which case all objects on the pasteboard which are above or below the document page area may

not be converted. One solution is to obtain Markzware’s Pasteboard XTension to change the length of the

QuarkXPress does not support multi-page Master Pages (more than 2 pages for a double-sided document or

more than 1 page for a non-facing pages document.) Also, Master Pages based on other Master Pages are not

supported. However, the objects will be conveniently created on the referencing Master Page. QuarkXPress

does not support Master Pages Layers. An InDesign Master Page can be a single page but may not always be

applied to a double-page. Linked text boxes cannot cross master pages nor link to a pasteboard object. Note

If there are fonts reported as missing after a document conversion you might try locating them in the Adobe

application support folder where you will find several OpenType fonts that InDesign activates privately:

Auto-Leading in InDesign is per ParaStyle whereas in QuarkXPress this is global preference.

Character Spacing not supported for TextOnPath.

If the Horizontal and Vertical Scale are different then the one not equal to 100% will be used.

Text Skew is not supported because QuarkXPress applies Text Skew to the entire text box.

QuarkXPress determines overflow using a font’s descent. To accommodate for this you can use the

“Grow Overflow Text Boxes” feature which will increase the text box bottom 4 pts, the right side 1 pt,

doing so up to 4 times until the overflow stops.

QuarkXPress has no Underline or Strikethru options.

QuarkXPress does not support Align Last Line.

Text Stroke Color not supported.

None Text Color with a color stroke will be converted to Outline style with the stroke width ignored.

A Section Marker will be displayed as Current Page.

Only Characters and Letters of Nested Styles are supported.

There is no specific H&Js in InDesign. Instead the settings are maintained within Paragraph settings.

Right Indent Tab will not Justify text Full Right in QuarkXPress.

Hexachrome colors will be converted to CMYK.

Process Coated EURO may convert to CMYK.

For InDesign 3, Metallic and Pastel colors are converted to LAB.

Opacity will be either Normal or Multiply (non-Normal.)

Gradients will be converted to QuarkXPress Blends using only the first and last colors. If a Linear Blend

When an image file is missing, ID2Q will create a preview file in a temporary folder. Select the Usage menu

item, select the picture, twist down More Information and scroll to the bottom to see the original pathname.

If a picture preview for a missing image is a TIFF without a resolution, QuarkXPress may consider the

resolution to be 101 DPI.

QuarkXPress does not support the PCX image type.

1-BIT images may not display properly or loose their transparency, especially if the image is missing,

InDesign’s Include Inside Edges turned on means Allow Holes and equals QuarkXPress’s OutSide Edges

Only turned off.

In InDesign you can base the runaround on the bounding box since an object is a container with content

whereas QuarkXPress does not handle objects this way. Therefore the runaround should be Wrap Around

Object Shape.

Text Wrap Above object is not supported. Also. Ignore Text Wrap is not supported, as well as some types

of Invert Text Wrap.

A Runaround for a picture box might not cause the text underneath to flow as expected. This is because

InDesign allows text to appear on both sides of the picture box.

InDesign:

QuarkXPress:

An InDesign Table is essentially an anchored box within a text box. Often the Table is such a tight fit that

this causes an overflow in QuarkXPress. The remedy is to manually widen the QuarkXPress text box until the

Table can be fully displayed:

InDesign: QuarkXPress:

InDesign uses Cell Strokes in Tables whereas QuarkXPress uses Table Grid Lines. The Table conversion

will be based first on Border Grid lines, then the sides of Cell in order of Non-Black, Black then None from

any Cell. Split Table rows in chained text boxes are not currently supported. You will need to manually resize a

text box (or temporarily increase the page height to make the Table visible) then Cut the Table to be able to

apply the desired Table Break.

Also, a Blend in a QuarkXPress Table Cell is always exclusive to the particular Cell, whereas in InDesign a

Gradient is displayed through an entire Table row.

InDesign: QuarkXPress:

Note that QuarkXPress does not support objects pasted into Table Cells. Such objects though will be conveniently

centered over the Table, but will need to be manually positioned as desired.

ID2Q will not break a long Table the flows through linked text boxes. Some conversions might show what

appears to be empty boxes, but this may occur because the Table may be too long. In this case, grow a text box

so that the Table appears. Next, using the Item Tool select the Table (which is actually an Anchor Box) then

Cut and Paste the Table onto the page and then manully adjust the break using Table Break menu item under

Nested Anchor Boxes are not supported by QuarkXPress. For example, pasted objects (such as Pictures) in

Table Cells are considered to be “anchors within anchors” because an InDesign Table always resides (is

anchored) within a text box. Such boxes may be placed centered over the Table. Anchor boxes using Custom

or Above Line are not supported (as well as Space Before/After, etc.) NOTE: InDesign allows text to display

over the anchor box but QuarkXPress does not (even if one adjusts the bottom runaround to 1/2 height.) If the

InDesign anchor mode is not “Inline” or there is a space before or after, then the anchor box will be set to

Open Polygon shapes cannot be filled in QuarkXPress and therefore they will be converted to closed paths.

QuarkXPress does not support the InDesign feature of Multiple-object Paste Into in which case some boxes

may be displayed at incorrect position on the page or in fact may not be converted at all.

Notes not supported and the text involved will be ignored.

Movies and Buttons will not be converted.
