Upon its completion in November 2009, the state-of-the-art, multi-purpose Independence Events Center will feature an arena with 5,800 fixed seats, 25 luxury suites, a bar/grill and community ice rink. The Independence Events Center will host more than 100 events each year and expects more than 500,000 visitors annually. The events center will host concerts, trade shows, professional sporting events, festivals, community ceremonies and will be home to the new Independence Central Hockey League franchise.

Independence approves hockey team lease for arena
An emergency ordinance approving an arena lease agreement between the city and Independence Professional Hockey, LLC was passed by the Independence City Council 6-0 Monday night.
