Hello Gardeners - - -

Yippee !  Janice's turnips are coming up and my radishes are germinating.

Thanks to whomever left a planter of chives on the back table. I picked cherry tomatoes and banana peppers from Becky's donated plants and they are on the wire rack in the back to eat. Yummy.

We got a donation of 25 bags of Miracle-Gro Organic Choice Garden Soil additive from Scotts !!! Many of you already placed additives in your dark compost soil, therefore no more is needed until spring planting. For those of you who haven't completed your bed, just follow the directions on the bag. This is a wonderful organic additive to mix into the top 3 to 4 inches of your dark compost. It is NOT recommended to use alone as soil, only as an additive to your existing soil.  Thanks to Jesus Reynoso, Sales Manager for Scotts, for the donation. Thanks to George from Scotts for helping unload. Jesus took pictures of our garden and will be making a power point presentation to Scotts corporate office in Ohio. This will provide the info they need to CONTINUE to support our Garden with products on an ongoing basis.

Joe the Plumber and Carlos straightened the water pipe, installed the sink faucet (and soap dish :-), and added two more faucets to the main water pipe for a total of three faucets. We can hook up a sleeve to the bottom of the sink drain pipe to divert water to a garden plot or just drain into a bucket. We have a separate shut-off valve that allows us to shut off our water from the main line that also supplies the two houses next to the garden. We also have a separate shut-off valve that lets us shut off the water to the sink. In case we have a sink problem, it will not disrupt our watering. Thanks Joe and Carlos.

Looks like the  note to our Spanish lady worked and she is not watering the plots :-)

Gail was showing her dad around the garden this morning and Kevin will be bringing/installing the stabilizer rods for the fence. Thanks Kevin.

Thanks Paula for aerating the compost and watering the communal planters and grape vines. We decided to dump the old dirt that was in the donated planters into the compost.

WHAT'S NEXT - - -

On Friday early morning I am picking up a load of dark compost soil from Highland Garden Nursery (compliments of Josine's donation), and Paula and I plan to unload it at the garden. This soil will finish off the last two plots.

Shed needs to be stabilized and have better flooring . Dave has a plan to do this.

We plan to set the decorative scalloped concrete dividers on bricks to form small planters. The wooden drawer is another planter.  These planter beds will have cardboard, newspaper, some straw, dark soil and Organic Choice. (No need for horse manure). Most gardeners would like herbs in the small communal planters. Only certain herbs can be planted in the fall. Read the packets.

Please feel free to take a donated plastic or clay planter, fill with compost and organic choice, and plant veggies, herbs or flowers. Just set the planters around the garden, or take a planter for yourself and set it upon your block :-)

The shed, the surrounding area, and the back of the garden needs to be cleaned up and organized. This will happen naturally once we use materials for the small communal planters.

Hope the temperature breaks this weekend to do some of this stuff. Boy it's hot. But the seeds love it !
