Update 9/25/09

Hello Gardeners - - -

We had such a good time this morning at The Garden - - - and so productive.

Plots 12 and 13 are complete with soil and Organic Choice additive - - - thanks Paula, Janice, Erika and Debrah!

Some of you may remember Debrah from a meeting we'd rather forget with the residents on another street (:-) Her daughter Marie was the little girl who raised her hand during the fray and quietly asked when we were going to plant a garden. She was the reason the decision was easy to find a welcoming spot for our garden. And here we are.

Although Debrah is busy with several guerilla gardens that she planted, about half-way through the morning she decided to take our last plot (#13). Debrah likes the "community aspect" of our garden. Welcome Debrah !

Janice found another large wooden drawer out for trash by her condo so she and I got it. It has made another wonderful communal herb planter. All herb plants are now planted, plus some red onions (thanks Paula) and yellow onions (thanks Janice).

Janice bought lady bugs and lady bug food (!) at the LA Fair and we had a "lady bug release" party in the herb planters. What fun! We have a ruby-throated hummingbird and two butterflies that like coming to visit.

Josine (Plot #12) and her friend stopped by to say "Hi" and she plans to be at the Garden this weekend.

WE HAVE BUNNY BABIES - - - I don't know whether to laugh or cry :-) Looks like they were born this morning. We gingerly put some chicken wire over the hole in the back fence trying not to disturb momma and babies, but the rabbits found another way into the garden through a hole in the fenced area of plants in the back corner. You should have seen me and Paula trying to catch the rabbit. I finally threw a net over it and Paula went to pick it up, but it was heavier than she thought and it ran off again.

WEEKEND WORK PLANS:

Hopefully we can finish the fence (top bars) and shed (bottom and floor).

Plug up holes in back fence to keep rabbits in their own yard.

Clean and organize shed. (I have a pocket organizer to hang in the shed so everyone will have their own "mailbox").

If you want to plant in any planters, please bring bagged soil. We are sold out !

I have a washer for the hose that is not attached to the faucet and will bring it tomorrow morning.

Mary
