Hello Gardeners - - - Thanks to all who worked on odds and ends this weekend. Thanks Dave for replacing the wood around the inside bottom of the shed, nailing down the floor, and cleaning/organizing its contents. Thanks Kevin for installing the top rails to the fence. Thanks Marie for cleaning up the back of the garden. Thanks Debrah for clearing the "wooded" area beside your garden plot. Thanks Valerie and Marie for making a wonderful flower planter incorporating the loquat tree and aloe plants in the back of the garden. Val planted a bunch of perennial flowers in the planter. These need to be added to our communal watering list. Hope I didn't miss thanking anyone :-) Next Big Work Project on Friday Oct. 2nd - - - "The Big Dig" - - - ok, is anyone from Boston? No? ok does anyone remember the decade-long project the city of Boston undertook to tunnel all the major traffic arteries below ground and put parks and gardens above ground? Yes, there were problems such as over-budget and below-grade cement causing multiple problems. Well, our "Big Dig" project will be much much better. Why? Because Dave is planning it and gardeners are installing it. Wonder what I'm talking about? Our IRRIGATION SYSTEM ! We decided to add to the great work that Joe the Plumber did. Dave developed a plan (he's good at doing that) and a supplies lists, and will purchase and deliver the supplies Thursday evening (Oct.1st). On Friday (Oct. 2nd) - - - all hands on deck - - - if you are available, we are digging trenches to bury PVC pipe and Dave will install individual plot faucets with shut-off valves throughout. You may want to ask why we didn't do this in the beginning - - - don't ask. Other Projects - - - 1. Please feel free to use planters around the garden for flowers, herbs, or other veggies. 2. Move the alfalfa bale behind the herb planters and plant a lettuce bale. I'll add a link on the website about this. We think Erika is going to take on this project, but everyone can help. 3. I will call for another load of wood chips to finish off the back of the garden and the area in front of our fence. Mary P.S.
