Hello Gardeners - - - PART OF THE PEPPER TREE FELL OVER - - - over the weekend the pepper tree split a huge limb and half fell into our garden and half on and over the other side of the fence ! It missed the shed and green bench. The fence looks to be ok. BUT - - - half of Valerie's garden plot is covered with the tree. I moved Val's ornaments and stones to the front of her plot. I don't know if anything else, other than veggies, is under the tree. It looks like the irrigation pipe and faucet are ok. I asked the Beckers to see what their maintenance guy can do to remove the tree from the garden plot. I am also checking with my gardener, especially because he has a chipper/shredder. If anyone has a chain saw and wants some exercise, you are more than welcome to cut the limbs to clear them off Val's plot and throw them over the fence. We can then take our time to cut firewood and make some mulch. BOLTING - - - when lettuce doesn't get picked, it will grow a stalk (sometimes with a flower attached) and stop producing. The bolt is not very tasty. Lettuce should be picked regularly so that it does not bolt. We had so much bibb lettuce in my and Tiffany's plot that some of it bolted. I removed those plants and added them to the compost bin. The rain kept us from keeping ahead of the growth. Oh well - - - it all gets recycled :-) MORE RAIN ON THE WAY - - - don't forget to turn off your automatic sprinklers. Rain is forecast for Wednesday through the early weekend. This time of the year, with periodic rain and cooler weather, our gardens don't need extra watering. LOCKS - - - some people have had trouble locking the new locks. Just push and hold the pin into the lock and turn the numbers. It should lock right away. Hope to see you around. Mary |
