Dave was hard at work when I showed up at the garden late this morning. After tending to his garden plot, he put the seed packet displays on hooks in the shed, decided on an alternate plan to stabilize the shed (to be done tomorrow), watered, added dark compost to the "abandoned" garden plot (which may be re-assigned to someone on our wait list), and did other assorted odds and ends. Dave and Jeneece donated one of their old green waste containers. Thanks. I filled up our two green waste containers with manure for ready-use and watered them. During the week other gardeners came and went ad lib to start their planting. Evelyn's scarecrow still startles me :-). I guess it's doing what it is supposed to do. AND, there was the most beautiful yellow and black large butterfly flitting around the plots. Good Omen. AND we got our first batch of beautiful, striking, laminated Membership Cards delivered compliments of Amanda's husband Joe. Thanks Joe. As more names are added, Joe will do the next batch. So please don't be upset if you don't get one of the first batches. You can use your cards for a 10% discount at Mt. Fuji Nursery. And if you are nervy like me - - - I'd present the card at other places as well for discounts :-) Work Party Tomorrow, Saturday - - - The "Fencing Team" is on deck for tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. Burying the horse manure is also on tap for tomorrow morning. Then cover the area with the extra dirt (not the dark compost soil) and wood chips. Buy and transport the remaining concrete block for plots 12 and 13. Start the plots. Start planting :-) Some legal advice from our garden legal beagle - - - 1. I need to use the blind copy for all your email addresses to protect privacy. Done. Thank you Tony. 2. We have seed packets of some poisonous plants (foxglove and morning glory). I will remove them tomorrow. A bit of advice on corn from Tony - - - since corn sucks the life out of the soil and has pollination issues, Tony offered to plant one garden plot of corn for us in the spring as a communal corn plot. Thanks Tony. My guess is that all the gardeners will accept your offer. See you all tomorrow. Mary |
