9/24/09 Update

Hello Gardeners - - -

We have a bunny problem :-) Paula saw it early this morning scampering around the back of the garden and I saw it mid-morning. Then Rob found a rather wide hole in the back fence right behind the rabbit cage. Hmmmm.

Next order of business - - - close up the hole in the neighbor's fence !

We may have another problem - - - Paula found the gate wide open and the water to the hose was on. (Glad we have automatic shut-off nozzles).  I hope this was due to a forgetful gardener. I know we talked about a lock on the fence and shed, but there is something about a lock that affects the serenity of the garden.  I have a two 'fer pack - - - 2 locks with one combo. Maybe we will lock the shed first and see if any other ghostly stuff goes on in our garden before deciding on a gate lock :-) Thoughts?

Thanks to Gail for broccoli starter plants. Thanks to Rob for leaving some avocados on the back rack. I got ambitious this morning and planted a bunch of herbs in our wooden drawer planter.

Rob and I met with Jackie, a Master Gardener from UCDavis and Marguerite, one of their trainees from Rialto (who brought her 2 children who helped me get the herb planter ready). (Picture shown lower left) Rob shared our website with them and they were very interested in seeing our garden and talking about our process to develop it. Jackie is organizing several Master Gardeners who are interested in Community Gardens to form a network group with various gardens in the county. We will be one of them. That means we can use them as a resource and even have them provide talks on various topics. It is all up to us to decide how to utilize them.

Tomorrow morning, Friday @ 8 a.m. - - - Paula and I will unload a scoop of dark compost and wheelbarrow it to the back of the garden. We need to add the final layer of manure to Plots 12 and 13, smush it, and then add the soil.
