Hello Gardeners - - - Happy New Year !!! Wishing you and yours a wonderful 2011 and a bountiful garden. With all the rain, don't forget to check on your veggies. There are lots of lettuces, root veggies, cruciferous veggies, etc coming up and ready to be picked. A casserole of roasted beets, carrots, potatoes, and other root veggies like turnips and parsnips is a great savory meal for this cold weather and rain. Yum ! And don't forget to add all your left over veggies to some barley and broth into a "kitchen sink" soup. We have a mom and her children who would like a plot in our community garden. They are on the waiting list. We have 1 or 2 gardeners who are late in planting their cool season crops. Remember that in order to keep a plot in our community garden you need to have a cool season and a warm season harvest every year unless you arranged to share your plot with another gardener. So please let me know if you can no longer garden. Please turn off your automatic watering systems. We are having rain every few days which is plenty during this cool weather. If you just planted seeds or small plantlets, you may need to water between the rain days until they germinate and take root. Mary |
