Over the last year, Clay Community Schools has been working in partnership with the community and local groups to develop the most responsible and affordable plan for the improvement and repair of our elementary school facilities. However, a small group of local citizens has taken steps to stop the building project, and we need your help...NOW!
Why do we need to renovate the elementary schools? Three reasons:
Safety, Equality, and Education. Just remember the word, SEE.
SAFETY When parents send their child to school, they want
to know that they are safe. This means that the buildings need to be restructured to control visitor access, create the ability to "lock down" in the event of an emergency, and even meet current building codes.
EQUALITY Unfortunately, not every elementary school child
in Clay County has access to the same educational facilities. In fact, many students at East Side, Staunton, and Meridian attend classes in modular or portable classrooms! This isn't safe, and it isn't fair!
EDUCATION Improving our educational facilities will give all
students access to the latest and best technology and equipment and provide an environment that is conducive to learning. Our children deserve the finest education!
Several months ago, a group of Clay County citizens collected the minimum number of signatures (150) required to temporarily stop the building project. Now, it is your turn to "cast your vote" in order to allow the building project to move forward.
From August 8, 2008, until September 8, 2008, you will be approached by people asking you to sign one of two petitions. If you sign the YELLOW petition, this means that you are in FAVOR of allowing the building project to proceed. If you sign the blue petition, you will be casting your vote against the building project and against improving the quality of education in Clay County.
