The Entering of Immigrants (into the United States)
What were the struggles that immigrants had to face when entering into the United States?
Before immigrants immigrated to the United States, they faced many struggles, and problems. When they arrived in the U.S., they did so by traveling by boat to Ellis Island before officially entering. They had to go through what was known as processing, where they had to wait on long lines for hours. During this time they were required to take an eye and medical exam, answer questions, and supply documentation. If they had more luggage then they were obligated to have they were required to leave it behind.
Another issue immigrants faced was the lack or understand and being able to speack English. Due to this issue they had difficulty trying to comminucate when asking for help, directions, jobs, and anything else that they may need. In addition, most immigrants barely had family in the U.S; they did not have anywhere to stay or anyone to help them start a new future.
Immigrants had to face many problems like prejudice, and discrimination; everywhere they went.
