Adventures (Memoir) of a Web Analyst

Immanuel Godwin Bangalore

Tracking down my adventures through the jungle of web analytical life is a passion fulfilled herein.

After a brief  stunt in BPO wing of a software company called Stylus Inc, started my Online Marketing career with Search Engine Optimization.

With a humble beginning with reporting for SEO my mentor and CEO of Nabler Web Solutions provided opportunities to grow setting achievable and realistic targets. Being a technical guy himself it was a lot of fun, innovation and growth in the quality of work almost every day. The homely atmosphere in Nabler almost became a habitat during the important phase of my life - the making of a web analyst in me. From building links to writing meta tags, altering page content to make them SEO complaint , innovating SEO solutions to those dynamically generated pages like building rules and then implementing them with the software development team(from Stylus)- mostly through SQL and number of mails and instructions from my eveready and patient mentor - Seby is almost still fresh in the secondary memory of my mind.

And then came the big day when we started core web analytics as a company - the time when Nabler merged with Flatworld and that meant a lot of change... More responsibilities and challenges followed. Started off with Seby making the templates for web analytical reports and me pulling data from web analytical tools like ClickTracks and others filling them in. Gradually as days rolled into weeks, typical of his style gave me the opportunity to start making templates-do qa and my team members filling in data. Further to these responsibilities,  also started pilots which meant doing a complete web analytical cycle of studying user requirements, proposing web analytical solutions to implement, configuring web analytical tools, constantly exploring new tools on the web, defining KPIS for clients interacting with the top executive management all the while running back and forth to Seby with questions, answers and stories. I remember the day when he gave me the kpi - Getting things done independently (lol - for all my constant bugging him) and thats when I started running to the Erics web analytical group and other online resources for help. Of course he always was there for a greater need. Still remember those midnights we spent at Nabler cracking the permutation and combination solution that we had designed for a educational US client offering a number of courses in his site.Just a Unforgettable experience out of many those days...ahhh I long for such .....And then the Nabler development team started building web analytical tools (The link is too conservative in explaining the great work done probably due to privacy concerns)and I started working with them as well....real great fun working with freshly graduated college kids full of energy - again driven by Seby to build real class web analytical tools used today by some of the top(10) notch technical companies in India.

We had fun ;we had life ;we achieved everyday; and we wanted more ! and then time came to bade good bye - one of the most difficult decisions of my life - if  I remember right , this was something that I had not even dreamed ! Uploaded cv to study the market and whoa AOL got me in...the student dream of making it to the top few companies in the industry saw its fulfillment with AOL.

Very particular about web analytics, joined the SEO team at AOL Analytics Solution Center headed by Santanu . New process oriented approaches,  professionalism all  around -  a very different environment  to the homely atmosphere where I was born and groomed. Changed everyday, adopted, learned, contributed with the skills acquired earlier, automated stuff and then grew up by moving to the global metrics & reporting team. Again learned, adopted competitor analysis processes and implemented web analytical solutions for omniture tagging through best cutting edge tools and technologies.

The best experience at AOL was the core web analytical work on Engagement Metrics for AOL web sites with some of the best(that I personally admire for technical skills and attitude) minds.
