Order

Summary of Assignment:

The order required students to choose an objective that would support the mission of the school, create an order of materials that support the objective, prepare a presentation to justify selection choices, and create a checklist of each step of the ordering process.

Evaluation:

This was probably one of my favorite assignments completed in the the SLM program.  While it was complex and lengthy, it felt completely authentic.  I thoroughly enjoyed working with my group members to accomplish the assignment and I loved the search for appropriate materials that would support our objective: the development of the fiction collection to better reflect the diversity of the student population.  It would be hard to improve upon this experience or do anything differently, but if pressed, I would say that perhaps we could have made more effort to involve the community in our search for materials.  We could have sent home a request for suggested materials for the order; thereby, giving the community more ownership of the collection and the media center as well as stimulating interest in using the collection.  I can't wait to duplicate this task as a media specialist!
