Laguna Colorada

The Laguna Colorada (the coloured lagoon) is a natural wonder situated in the south of Bolivia in the natural reserve Reserva de Fauna Andina Eduardo Avaroa.

It's red waters, red because filled with algea that feed on the minerals that it contains, are home to large flocks of pink flamingos. The shores of the lake are encrusted with white deposits of ice and borax.

Not the classical Salar image showing the white salt plain and a bright blue sky but nevertheless breathtaking.
