Affiliation to Badminton England

posted ‎‎Sep 18, 2008 6:35 AM‎‎ by Gary Tovey   [ updated ‎‎Sep 18, 2008 7:18 AM‎‎ ]

I now have the pack for the club to start the process to join Badminton England (BE) & Devon County Badminton Association (DCBA), as well as insurance cover for 'Public Liability' (covered by BE in the clubs affiliation fees) & 'Personal Accident' (PA).

Firstly, we need to look for a Secretary, Treasurer, Match Secretary & Chair. The clubs affiliation fees to BE are £46.20 & to DCBA £22.50, which it shoud be possible to pay from the weekly fees provided we maintain our high numbers of attendance.

We also need to understand who is prepared to help out with the club & in what capacity & for anyone who would like to help out with youth development, there will need to be a CRB (criminal record) form completed. Then we need to start to sign up individually to BE & DCBA, for which the fees are:

BE Senior          £9.30        BE Junior        £4.65 - Public Liability runs 1st Sept 2008 to 1st Sept 2009
DCBA Senior     £4.50        DCBA Junior    £2.25
PA Senior          £1.80        PA Junior        £0.90 - 1st Nov to 31st Oct

To encourage as many of you to sign up early, there will be no membership fee for the club. Membership of the club will effectively occur by completing membership to BE. Those not signed up to BE will be treated as guests of the club. Currently there is no differentiated charge for attending sessions, but this may be something that will occurr after a certain date, possibly 1st November, although this will only likely be 50p per session extra whilst you remain a guest & could be recoverable if you subsequently join BE as a member of the Ilfracombe club.

Extended Club Night Hours

posted ‎‎Sep 12, 2008 2:32 AM‎‎ by Gary Tovey   [ updated ‎‎Sep 12, 2008 2:35 AM‎‎ ]

Thanks to all that attended this week....an amazing 40 of us! For those that didn't attend, we had to open up a court in the gym, adjacent to the hall & so had the use of 5 courts. Next week & until further notice we are going to extend club night by starting at 1800hrs (6pm) & running through to 2130hrs(9.30pm). Feedback from the session was that many of you with children would like to start earlier. We will therefore aim to run a 'family' session from 6 to 7.30 & an 'adult' session from 7.30 to 9.30, although you can turn up at any time throughout the night

Family Discounts

With some of you attending with more than one child & with numbers as they are, we are able to reduce the fees for each additional child after the first child. Fees for the second child & each additional child from the same family will be £1 instead of the normal £2. If both parents attend, then every child will only be charged £1.

Coaching Discounts

Anyone signing up for badminton coaching will receive a £1 discount for each club session they attend whilst the coaching is being undertaken. The next badminton coaching sessions are due to begin on Tuesday 23rd September 2008 at North Devon College (NDC, Barnstaple) & will last for 10 weeks at a total cost of £30.50p. The net cost to you, after club discounts will be £20.50p.

North Devon College

For those not able to attend this time, there will be a new round of courses in January & it is likely we will continue the discounts. We will also be offering some coaching on club nights for those unable to attend the courses offered through NDC. Some of the coaching offered will be 'free of charge' & some will be at a subsidised cost & ofcourse you can opt in or out. For more information on coaching, please visit the coaching section of the club website at:

There is much more in the pipeline, but I don't want to drown you all in information. However, feel free to raise anything you would like considered, cheers, Gary
