Some current projects, September 2009 to date: Maintaining  a bibliography on gangs in Central America for Dr. Harry Vanden, Government & International Affairs, University of South Florida; developing a chapter on library instruction for a  textbook on music research methods for Dr. Sang-Hie Lee, School of Music, University of South Florida;  working on a chapter on evaluating resources for a textbook for UMUC; participating on a committee developing a Second Life island for (UMUC) University of Maryland University College; volunteering for presentations on the use of Second Life at the University of South Florida.

Retired from this position September 2009: University Librarian (i.e. "full" librarian), Tampa Campus Library, Reference/Instruction, University of South Florida.   Duties include reference and instruction as well as collection development for the School of Architecture and Community Design.  Over the years collection development assignments included fine arts and various liberal arts departments.  Helped implement virtual reference service via email, chat.  Participated in recent  Infoquest text message reference service pilot project .

Teaching  responsibilities

I have taught “one shot” information literacy instruction sessions for a variety of subject areas for the Tampa Library both face-to-face and via Elluminate.  I have been the "embedded librarian" in some courses. I have taught graduate and undergraduate "for credit" courses as an adjunct for the School of Library and Information Sciences (SLIS), University of South Florida most semesters during 1994 – 2006 with occasional assignments 2007 to date. (Most courses taught at a distance using Blackboard.)  I also teach for University of Maryland University College (UMUC). I have taught at least one course most semesters for UMUC from Spring 2001 to date. (All courses taught at a distance using UMUC’s homegrown learning management system WebTycho.) 

 

   Examples of “for credit” courses taught:


  • UMUC:  UCSP 611 Introduction to Graduate Library Research Skills. One credit course required for all graduate students at UMUC. Course capped at fifty students.  Online.  Most recent section taught: Summer 2011.
  • UMUC Masters in Distance Education Certificate Program: Developed a three credit course DETT 611 "Library Services for Distance Learning" for University of Maryland-University College (UMUC). Online. Taught spring semesters Spring 2001 – Spring 2007. Course revised for new curriculum. Team-taught the course Spring 2008, taught solo starting Spring 2009. Course is offered once or twice a year.
  • UMUC: LIBS 150 "Information Literacy and Research Methods".  Required undergraduate one credit hour ½ term course.  Course capped at 100 students.  Online. Taught most semesters since Summer 2004 including Summer 2011.
  • USF-School of Library and Information Science (SLIS). LIS 2005 a three-credit undergraduate course on library and Internet resources.  Online. Fall 2008 and Fall 2009.
  • USF- (SLIS): Developed a three-credit course called LIBS 4930 "Library Services for Distant Learners".  Online.  Offered most semester Spring 1999 through Spring 2006. 
  • USF-SLIS:  LIS 5040 "Foundations of Library & Information Science" LIS 5404, a three credit course. Taught face-to-face.  Spring 2003
  • USF-SLIS: "Teaching Information Literacy" A team-taught three-credit graduate-level blended course developed as part of an IMLS grant. Taught face to face.  Spring 2001 & Fall 2001 & Spring 2002. (See below for information about the grant.)
