ElementaryMy name is Mrs. Garcia. I am the Spanish teacher for 2nd-8th Grade in the California Campus. My goal is to make Spanish engaging, fun, and challenging for your student. Elementary students will be learning Spanish using Risas y Sonrisas Spanish for Kids Curriculum. The curriculum uses colorful posters, games, songs, sign language, and an online resource to introduce new vocabulary and help the student retain and build their confidence.
Since Spanish is one time a week, practice is a vital part of your child learning and retaining the new vocabulary. Your student will be asked to practice vocabulary using the online resource for 10-15 minutes a day. The online resource has the vocabulary practiced in class, most of the songs and fun videos that use the vocabulary learned. If you prefer your student not use the internet, you can them create their own flashcards using the vocabulary list and practice those for 15 minutes a day. Students in 7th and 8th grade will have Spanish one trimester a year on a rotating schedule. We will be using Realidades 1 Spanish curriculum. The curriculum consists of the textbook, workbook, and an online resource. The online Student Home Page activities include vocabulary review, audio files, songs, puzzles, and test preparation. Homework will be assigned on a weekly basis beginning in September and will be posted on my website and in class. Homework will consist of daily practice, workbook assignments, and other miscellaneous worksheets. The Realidades Spanish Workbook was already provided to your student. Your student may also check out a textbook to keep at home, but will need to be returned at the end of the trimester. If you prefer your student not use the internet, they can create their own flashcards using the vocabulary list and practice those for 15 minutes a day. Vocabulary lists will be sent home about once a month. Grades will be based on homework, participation, and test scores. Grades will be posted on Teacherease.
