Accelerated Reader Link/Tutorial

Click on the link below to access the Accelerated Reader program.  Refer to the instructions below on how to utilize the program.  Students have been given usernames and passwords to access the Accelerated Reader program from home.  This will allow them the ability to complete a comprehension quiz on a book that they just finished reading.  We  have a specific confirmation form to be filled out to verify a) that the book that your son or daughter took a quiz on was not a book that they previously read, b) that they took the test without directly checking answers from the book, and c) the book is in their ZPD range (reading ability range, as established by the STAR test recently taken).  For each book for which a quiz is successfully taken, with a score of 80% or higher, students will earn points toward their individual quarterly and yearly reading goals.  Specific classroom-based incentives will be linked to meeting of these goals.  A student is only able to take a test on a particular book 1 time in order to receive a passing score.

Instructions to Accessing Accelerated Reader:

Dear Parents,

Everyone should now be able to access Accelerated Reader with your username and password.  Remember that your username is the first letter of the student's first name, plus the first four letters of the student's last name.  so, if my name were Joe Dimaggio, my username would be jdima.  Everyone's password is currently set as abc.  I have included instructions below on how to check if a book title is on Accelerated Reader, prior to a student starting to read a book, as well as instructions on how to take a quiz, after a book has been read.  Points earned through Accelerated Reader assist students in moving toward both their trimester and yearly reading goals.  Soon I will have more information added to the class website regarding the Walk Across America goal and the individualized reading goals, which I described briefly at the Back-to-School night.  With the exception of a couple of new students, everyone should have received the results of a recent STAR reading test for their child.  This form allows you to see your son's or daughter's current reading level and their ZPD (Zone of Proximal Development).  The ZPD is the reading range within which a student should be selecting books.  You can find the grade level of a particular book, by looking up the title on Accelerated Reader.

Please let me know if you have any questions with any of this or if you are having difficulty logging in, etc...

Thanks and have a great Labor Day weekend!
