Two Party Theory

By Azam Paki 4 July, 2009

In February 2009 i write an article Two Party System in which i stressed upon the importance of two party political system. Many who has been reading my articles then and now can understand how important that article is today's circumstances when Pakistan has been victim of internal and external attacks. Although it looks practically hard to unite all political parties under one name because of two reasons, one is that i do not think that their is realization of the importance of that and second no body wants sacrifice the identity of the party, which is quite right to some extent. For example JI and PTI both political parties launched separate reallies on 3rd July 2009  against govt policies for a common people cause. Many other parties might also agree with them. Which shows that parties can unite under a greater cause while keeping their identities.

My point of writing this article is to stress on political parties that They should see the concept of "Two Party Theory" as "Two Nation Theory". As in "Two Nation Theory" all political parties of occupied India were divided one a broader concept of "Two Nations". In case of  "Two Party Theory" all political parties of Pakistan should understand that, what are the agendas of other parties. And support and oppose a party on the basis of short term issues like oil prices, inflation but a long term national cause. That agenda should be "Stronger Pakistan" or one greater cause "supreme national interest".

I thing this is the best time to decide for parties that in future they would be fighting not against a party in elections but they would be fighting against an agenda. An that agenda should be our decisions would be in "supreme national interest" either originated internally with mutual agreement or externally. Parties should oppose and support others to defeat anti-state acting parties. For example party 'A' and 'B' should unite to defeat party 'C' which is a non state party.

Political parties of Pakistan and their leaders should be in the state to differentiate between pro-state and anti-state acting parties after 62 years of instability. And if they are not, then i am afraid "time do not repeat itself always" and we might not have the opportunity to understanding the difference next time because there might not be a next time this time.
