The Harvard University Department of the Classics has agreed to administer a memorial fund to honor Professor Ševčenko with the purchase of books for Harvard's Smyth Classical Library. Books purchased with the fund will be of special interest to Byzantinists and will bear a commemorative bookplate.
The Smyth Classical Library, housed in a large, separate
room on the third floor of Widener Library, contains a working
collection of over 9,000 text editions, monographs, standard
reference works, and materials for specialized fields such as
palaeography and epigraphy. It is a non-circulating collection
which serves as a research resource for members of the
Department of the Classics (students and faculty) and interested
members of the Harvard community.
In lieu of sending flowers, we invite you to contribute to the Fund by sending a check (drawn on any currency) payable to “Harvard Dept. of Classics: Ihor Ševčenko Fund” to the following address:
