Blanes, January 5, 2012.- Excellent edition of the 2012 International Grand Prix Vila de Blanes, where during four days of races have been running 29er, 420 and Europe classes. A total of 33 races were completed (14 in 29er, 11 in 420 and 8 in Europe), with a participation of 142 sailors from 12 different countries, display the importance of this Trophy which this year, as noted by the Vice President of the Club Vela Blanes, Oriol Subirà, celebrates the twelfth edition and reminded the international vocation of this Grand Prix, which has its origins in 1995 when was reserved for the Dragon class and how it has evolved and become a reference in the international sailing world, for 420 and Europe classes and, from this edition, wants to be in 29er as well. "All of these classes qualified as strategic classes and of projection youth sailors to his sport future," he said.
At the price giving ceremony attended the sports council of the municipality of Blanes, Xavier Marcos, the president of the FCV, Gerard Esteva, the delegate of the Catalan sports, Pep Pujols, the Spanish secretary of the Europe class, Paco Llabrés and Club Vela Blanes President Amadeu Nualart.
The delegate of Sports of the Generalitat congratulated the Club de Vela Blanes, saying that they are "an example of sporting and organizing capability and club model, and a pioneer in sailing teaching and training” and welcomed all the competitors and encouraged them to come back to Blanes, which will always be welcome as sailing athletes.
Tobias Hemdorff, recover the lead, and win the Grand Prix
The Danish Tobias Hemdorff is the winner of the International Grand Prix Vila de Blanes, after a fought last racing day in the Europe class with only one single point from Nicklas Veith, who yesterday took the lead over the Danish. He had to control and neutralize attacks from his closest rivals, the local sailor Albert Codinachs, the last year winner of the Grand Prix who finish this year last race with a frist position, and Ivan Moreno, who did today an excellent 3 and 2.
At the end Tobias Hemdorff has got the first level of the podium, Nicklas Veith, second and Ivan Moreno the third.
The fourth position was Albert Codinachs, CV Blanes, and fifth Juan Calvo, sailor of the RCN Denia. The French Sylvian Notonier was sixth, followed by Ascension Roca who became the winner of the women classification.
Martí Llena/ Oriol Mahiques, 29er winners
The team Marti Llena / Oriol Mahiques (CN Garraf) has been proclaimed the 29er champions of the 2012 International Grand Prix Vila de Blanes. They clearly dominated from the first day, the Grand Prix, a long journey, with 14 races and three discards, scoring only 11 points. Their closest competitors were the Swiss team Victor Casas / Jeremy Bachelin, with 27 points have consolidated the second position ahead of the Italians Raggio Ontavia / Davide Tonelli, completing the podium scoring 31 points with the three discards. In an difficult fourth place have been positioned Nil Mas / Toti Llena (CN Garraf), which have displaced the Swedish James Olsson / Gustav Kolby from this position today, after the great results achieved by the Catalans in the races today, two seconds and a fifth, scoring 39 points.
Pirolielle / Saping confirm the leadership and win in 420
The struggle in 420 leading, eventually resolved in favor of the team Guillaume Pirolielle / Valentin Sapin, who confirmed their leadership and despite the pressure from his immediate rivals, have won the trophy with 11 points scored in the 11 races held over the trophy. Teammates Jennifer Poret / Laise Chever were second with 15 points. They've made it hard to the winners until the last moment by pressing at any time during today races. The podium has been completed with Thomas Ponthieu / Valentino Di Salvo, somewhat behind in the struggle of the first two, scoring a total of 33 points after two discards.
