Decisive day in the 2012 International Grand Prix Vila de Blanes

Blanes, January 4th, 2012 .- Excellent third day of competition at the 2012 International Grand Prix Vila Blanes. The races started at 9:00 am with the offshore thermal wind (NNE in this area of the Catalan coast) of 11 knots, which has changed to E component at the end of the day. The Race Committee managed to run four races in 49er, and three for the Europe and 420 classes. Up to the moment, 29er class have sailed 11 races, 420 class, 9 races and Europe class, 6 races.

 

Nicklas, from Ibiza, leading with 5 points to Tobias Hemdorf
Veith Nicklas, from ibiza, has been the leader today in Europe class, winning one position and overtaken provisionally the Danish Tobias Hemdorff, the actual world champion in the Europe class. The one from the CN of Ibiza, with 25 points, is five points ahead of the Danish and tomorrow will be undoubtedly exciting until the last finishing line. In this struggle for the top places has also been placed the local sailor Albert Codinachs, which maintains a very regular regatta, and is up to now in the third on the podium, quite far from his closest competitor, Ivan Moreno, who is tied with the Valencia sailor Juan Calvo. All of them are the most likely for  the Spainish Cup Europe Class classification, to which are also struggling to be placed in the top positions the Masnou sailor, Pau Schilt, seventh, behind Sylvian Notonier French, Victor Morato, eighth, and Ascensión Roca who is in ninth position and is the first woman classified.

The team Marti Llena / Oriol Mahiques (CN Garraf) are the virtual champions in 29er class in the Grand Prix de Blanes. Today the team continue unbeatable, only yielding in the first race of today with a second place, but with three first places in the others. After discarding their two worse races, the total scoring is  9 points, 12 points ahead of the nearest rivals, the Swiss Victor Casas / Jeremy Bachelin, with 21 points, who consolidated its second position ahead of the Italians Raggio Ontavia / Davide Tonelli, scoring, after two discards, 29 points. The Swedish James Olsson / Gustav Kolby are fourth with 35 points, and very close are Nil Mas /  Toti Llena (CN Garraf) trailing the Swedes, in a comfortable fifth position with 37 points with chances to regain positions tomorrow.

Struggle for leadership in 420
Amazing day for the French sailors Jennifer Poret / Laise Chever, last year winners of  the International Grand Prix Vila de Blanes, that today signed three first places, shortening the distance, after two discards, with his fellow mates Guillaume Pirolielle / Valentin Sapin. Despite of this attack, they remain leaders in the Grand Prix, but only with three points ahead. Tomorrow will be a decisive day to set up who will win in Blanes in this class. Behind them, standing at the podium, are the sailors of YC Antibes Thomas Ponthieu / Valentino Di Salvo, who are third with 24 points but only to 4 points ahead of Laure Ferchaud / Juliette Lefriec. The major disadvantage in the races of the day have been Marie Soler / Thibaut Soler, coming down from the third to the sixth position, with 31 points.

Tomorrow is the last day of the International Grand Prix, with two races scheduled in each of the competing classes.

The warning signal will be at 9:00 am
