Dr. Ignacio Barbeito SánchezMy general interests broadly lie in applied ecology and conservation. However, I am particularly interested in linking patterns and processes of forests at multiple spatial and temporal scales.
My Ph.D. focused on the study of forest succesion dynamics of different species in managed pine stands in Mediterranean forests. Specifically, I was interested in developing and applying innovative spatial statistics to capture and quantify the impact that forest practices and environmental heterogeneity have in these processes.I also worked in developing new measures to address biodiversity in managed stands and in finding the optimal scales to monitor this diversity. My postdoc is focused on the study of altitudinal treelines and their relation to climate change and to the legacies of human habitat alteration.
For my research, I use a variety of quantitative techniques including Spatial Analysis, Mixed and Non-Linear models, Recursive partitioning and Multivariate Analysis to try to achieve the best inference from the ecological data we collect.
