Notes on directory submission

The directory submission process generally takes a few days to complete from submission to listing in the directory, but can occasionally take up to two weeks.  If, after two weeks the gadget doesn't appear, there are two likely causes of the omission:
  1. The gadget doesn't have enough users: in order to appear in the directory, gadgets must have a certain number of users.  The exact number isn't publicly disclosed, but it's small.  Advertising your gadget via a blog, or by sharing your gadget with friends and colleagues should provide you enough users to appear in the directory.
  2. The gadget has XML errors: gadgets must pass XML and UTF-8 validation in order to be added to the directory.  It's recommended that you check your gadget XML with an XML validator such as the one provided by W3C.
If you modify a gadget XML file that has already been submitted to the iGoogle directory, the directory will automatically find those changes and update the entry for the gadget.  Normally this process takes a few days.  Validation errors will prevent the directory from updating, so make sure it validates, even if it's already made it into the directory.
