The IEEE Eastern Carolina Lasers and Electro Optics Society Chapter and the Carolina Photonics Consortium will host a symposium on components for optical sensing on Thursday, September 25th, 2008 from 8:15 am to 4:30 pm at the Larry K. Monteith Research Center on the Centennial Campus of North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC. (http://centennial.ncsu.edu/ ) The purpose of this one day symposium is to highlight state-of-the-art photonics research relevant to optical sensing. Invited speakers include LEOS Distinguished Lecturers Kent Choquette (U. Illinois, Urbana-Champaign) and Cun-Zheng Ning (Arizona State University), William Clark (Army Research Office Electronics Division Chief), and researchers from local institutions (Duke, NCSU, RTI, UNC-Charlotte). The program also features a poster session, a tour of facilities at NCSU, and a reception/industry cluster.
