The best rechargeable batteries are NiMH; Nickel-Metal Hydride. These should replace the now obsolete NiCad batteries. NiMH batteries don’t have the “memory effect, and they have a higher capacity than NiCds. Although they are great “all-around” batteries, NiMHs will go dead after a few months, even if you don’t use them (this is known as the “self-discharge” rate.) For this reason they are not a good choice for smoke detectors or emergency flashlights. |
