Our outdoor shrines are built of either locally sawn Pine or Red Cedar and are finished with linseed oil. The cedar used is very fragrant and the lumber is not easily acquired. Though the shrines are built to withstand weather, they may also be hung indoors. It is recommended that if you plan to hang a shrine outside with no shelter over it, that you buy one made of Cedar. Pine will perhaps only last 15 years if subject to the rain. Cedar will last twice as long. And both will probably last your life time if kept under shelter, such as under a porch roof.
