The Implant Team

Implant Team Overview

iConfiDent promotes a team approach to implant procedures.  In order to support all members of the team we have loosely defined the responsibilities of each professional involved to allow for an easy and efficient system to help grow your implant practice.  Once everyone understands their role and what they are suppose to do, the entire process will become more efficient, production growth of implant cases will increase, and best patient care will best be achieved.

We recommend the specialist/implant coordinator bring all of the restorative dentists, assistants, dental labs and implant reps together to define the role and the accountability each person takes during the implant procedure, this will streamline the process and improve the efficiency of the treatment team. We recommend a meeting with your group and explain how this process plays out.

Here is an overview of each role and the responsibility each person has:

Specialist and Assistant/Coordinator

  • At the beginning – take the lead of the treatment planning and communicate it to the team
  • Retrieve accurate information from the restorative doctor before patient comes in for consultation
  • If possible offer a discounted rate for consultation - to help promote your implant practice
  • Communicate to the restorative doctor that the patient has or has not accepted the implant procedure.
  • Keep the team informed where the patient is in the procedure
  • Communicate the implant used and offer suggestions or even order restorative components
  • Once the patient has finished healing.  Work with the implant rep – use them as the liaison between your practice and the restorative doctor.
  • Follow up with patient after restoration has been completed

Restorative doctor and Assistant/Coordinator

  • Communicate with the specialist that the patient will be coming in for implant consultation
  • Schedule restorative appointment as soon as the patient has finished healing
  • Select and order restorative components – Specialist sometimes can supply or suggest the abutment – define how you want to work.
  • Communicate with the lab technician about the restorative components and the date needed for the patient’s  appointment
  • Communicate to the treatment team that the patient is finished with the restoration
  • Follow up with patient

Dental Lab

  • Communicate with the team the aesthetic needs of the case.  Promote a virtual approach working backwards from completed restoration to surgery
  • Assist restorative doctor in selecting and suggesting restorative components
  • Confirm date when parts are needed
  • Follow up with restorative doctor after restoration is complete

Implant Rep

  • Is the liaison between the specialist, restorative doctor and dental lab
  • Communicate to the restoring doctor what implant was used and recommend restoring components
  • Offer educational material – makes sure all questions are answered pertaining to parts and procedure needs
