Friends of La Esperanza Granada

Inspiring Hope Through Education:

La Esperanza Granada is a volunteer organization focused on improving the lives and education of impoverished children living in Granada, Nicaragua. They help with infrastructure, resources and by working with students from kindergarten level through university to brighten the future for young people living in poverty. Sponsorship programs for both high school and college level makes success for local students a reality.

In addition to helping in the local public schools La Esperanza Granada’s learning centers provide a clean and safe environment for students to continue learning during their free hours. The centers are run with the help of volunteers and local interns, and the children have an opportunity to learn through engaging and interactive activities and lessons focused on math, Spanish, art and computers. The projects are described in more detail at www.la-esperanza- granada.org.

Juntos Adelante

The project of Juntos Adelante is to promote more just distribution of health, financial, intellectual, and artistic resources, abundant in the developed world, to women-owned and operated organizations and businesses in developing nations. By transferring the wealth of services, products, and resources in the developed nations to less-developed nations, the end goal is to encourage self-sustainability of women-initiated organizations dedicated to health and human rights in their communities. This would be accomplished through the following:

  • Re-allocating services, products, and resources from developing nations to women in developing nations who are dedicated to the health and dignity of other women, their families, and their communities.

  • Providing health, community organization and fiscal information, education, and services to the women who serve as civic leaders, health professionals, and human rights advocates in their community.

  • Promoting and/or providing opportunities for continuing education to women in the developing world.

  • Improving linkages between international, governmental, and academic institutions that assist in the sustainable development of women’s grassroots and community organizations that promote health and human rights to achieve economic independence and financial sustainability.

  • Promoting and supporting research that promotes women’s health and human rights. Increased formal recognition of the work and professions accomplished operate by and for women, such as, but limited to midwifery and other under-compensated professions.

  • Promoting universal access to reproductive health care for all women in the developing world.

  • Lending financial, intellectual, and artistic support to women’s initiatives throughout the developing world.

A current focus of the activities of Juntos Adelante is the support of Mama Licha's Clinic in Estelí, Nicaragua (www.mamasclinic.org).
