Ray was born in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, the birth place of Rafael Hernandez, Puerto Rico's foremost composer, and raised in Brooklyn and New York City's Spanish Harlem, homegrounds to Tito Puente, Ray Barretto, and many other salsa icons.
He began his musical career at an early age and went on to study at the renowned Brooklyn Conservatory of Music where he majored in music theory, counterpoint, harmony and arranging.
Ray Rodriguez y Swing Sabroso and their distinctive style, Salsa Dura, have generated a growing number of loyal fans since 2001 when they were formed. Before playing together, individual members of the band have performed and recorded with some of the most recognizable names in Latin Music. The band has performed with great reviews at Lincoln Center, S.O.B.s, LQ's Philadelphia Salsa Congress, NYC Salsa Congress and many more festivals and clubs.
Their debut album, appropriately entitled "Baila con Swing Sabroso", has been getting great reviews by specialized media and continues to be a favorite with many DJ's and Dancers.
