Study in Sweden, Stockholm

Looking to study in Sweden? Try Stockholm! Geographically speaking, the Kingdom of Sweden is the fourth largest country in Europe, but it boasts a population of only nine million people living in the more densely populated south. Sweden is a clean and friendly country, well known for its high standard of living, free spirits, and sports-mad populace. Although it is perhaps best known for its Viking lore, today, Sweden is the exporter of such world renowned brands as Volvo, Ikea, Ericsson, Absolut Vodka, Saab, the Nobel Prizes, and, lest we forget, ABBA.

To study in Sweden one would not be wrong to consider colleges and universities in Stockholm, the country's watery capital. It is a strikingly beautiful city full of museums, cafes, parks, and waterways; getting around the country is easy, thanks to its extensive public transportation.

Swedes favor outdoor activities. What kind of activities? Well, how's the weather? When winter hits, you will see people skating wherever the ice is thick enough. Go to Vastmanland or Stockholm and you're sure to find cross-country and downhill skiers as both regions are popular ski centers. Come spring and summer, once the ice has thawed, there are plenty of canoeing possibilities from the excellent areas on the lakes to the exciting northern river rapids. Believe it or not, Sweden does have some good swimming beaches, especially around Uppsala. Year-round hiking and orienteering are popular everywhere; while Sareks National Park is probably Sweden's most spectacular area for hiking, only serious, experienced hikers need tackle that terrain.

It is mutually intelligible with other Scandinavian languages (Danish, Norwegian). More than 9 million people converse through it. While majority of Swedes do speak English, if you study abroad in Sweden, it would not be in vain to first browse through the popular vocabulary of Swedish language. It might be fun! Most students will find courses in Swedish for foreign speakers no matter which university or college in Sweden they choose. Summer study programs are available for students as well.
