 Homework Learning Challenges Supply List Dear Fourth Graders, Welcome to Fourth Grade and Hunters Glen Elementary. Our year will be filled with knowledge, care, fun, and friendship! Listed below are the subject areas you will be learning about and the topics we will cover in each of those subjects. SOCIAL STUDIES/SCIENCE Our Social Studies program consists of these major units: Geography and Landforms, Colorado Wildlife, Colorado History, Flight, Solar System, Inventors, and Water. Colorado History will involve learning about the different populations and expansion of our state as well as the contributions of the Native Americans, Explorers, Trappers, Traders, Miners, Settlers, and Reformers in making Colorado what it is today. Our Flight Unit will introduce the forces of flight and gravity. We will study map skills, landforms, and geography. EVERYDAY MATH
"Everyday Math" is the math program used by our district. It allows students to take everyday experiences and find the math in them. Everyday Math combines tradition with the best of today's math concepts, instruction, and skills together. Computation of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, place value, estimation, measurement, money, probability, statistics, geometry, fractions, problem solving, and decimals will be studied. WRITING WORKSHOP Required writing: *Report * Summary * Process Explanation 1. Writing for Special Purposes 2. Narrative Writing 3. Writing to Describe: Poetry is a study area and we will study different styles and observe how poetry ties into our Reading. Students will create an observation report to better understand sequence and details. LANGUAGE ARTS Our Language Arts program consists of Spelling and Reading. You will have a spelling test once a week and read out of a special reading text we call “Rigby.” SPECIAL CLASSES Special classes include: Computers, Art, Music, Physical Education, and Health. You will attend one of these classes daily and will attend the class five days in a row and then switch to a new specials class. Fourth Grade is excited about having you join our team.
