HHMI-USE
has funding to support summer internship opportunities for 5 high school
students who have successfully completed the RTF workshop in the fall or the
spring. The interns are given an opportunity to choose a lab, and work
full-time for six weeks in the state-of-the-art Hunter scientific research
laboratories, alongside experienced scientists, graduate and undergraduate
students. At the end of the internship, the students report the results of
their research projects to the Department of Biological Sciences using a PowerPoint
presentation format. Several interns are usually invited to continue their
project throughout the academic year, based on their performance during the
summer. The RTFW interns earn a stipend of $1000 for the summer and each mentor
receives $500 for small lab equipment and/or supplies.
