It uses punching, kicking, knee and elbow strikes, and open-handed techniques. Karate can be practiced as an art, a sport or as self defence. It places emphasis on self development, perseverance, fearlessness, virtue, leadership skills, exercise and, in some cases, competition.
Kickboxing originated in the 1960s and is a hybrid martial art formed from various elements of traditional styles of Karate, Muay Thai and western boxing. It is often practiced for self defence, general fitness or as a contact sport.
