FUTURE MEETING: Our Board of Supervisors will hold a Public Hearing regarding the Humboldt Hill Road Extension Amendment on May 12, 2009 @ 1:30pm. This subject heard public comment during Planning Commission meetings last year.
February 19, 2009 Planning Commission Meeting:
This meeting was in the form of a Town Hall meeting regarding the 2009 Housing Element of the General Plan Update. A microphone was passed around and those wishing to make a statement or ask a question of the Commissioners or CSD staff had their chance. Realtors, developers, contractors, building trade associations were well represented. Numerous citizens provided comments and questions. All in all it was a good meeting and the Town Hall format worked well.
There are three more similar meetings to be held before the Planning Commission: February 26th, March 19th and March 26th. If at all possible please attend on of these meetings and speak you peace!
January 22, 2009 Planning Commission Meeting:
The Planning Commission heard a continued staff report regarding the 2009 Housing Element portion of the General Plan Update. This portion of the Updated General Plan must be submitted to the State for their approval by August 2009. Planning Staff felt completion of the Housing Element will be up against that deadline. The Planning Commissioners requested further public comment/meetings. Planning Director, Kirk Girard, pointed out that there is a short timeframe and at the January 29th Planning Commission meeting there would be time for more public comment. Also, there is supposed to be further public comment when the Board of Supervisors review the document. Commissioners Emad and Gearheart indicated they would like to hear more comments/questions/concerns from the public before they attempt to make a decision.
January 8, 2009 Planning Commission Meeting:
The Planning Commission will have a Public Hearing regarding the 2009 Housing Element Update. Staff will present policies affecting kinds, locations and intensities of land use and new development within the unimcorporated areas of Humboldt County.
It appears after the staff report is presented there will be time for Public Comment.
Please plan on attending. Only the residents of our community and neighborhoods know how they should be developed.
The meeting begins at 6pm and is held in the Board of Supervisors Chambers!
December 4, 2008 Planning Commission Meeting:
The Humboldt County Local Coastal Plan Update, Humboldt Hill Area subject was addressed by project planner, Michael Richardson. Followed by a series of citizen comments, a majority of whom opposed the amendment. Upon completion of public comment a motion was made by Commissioner Herman, seconded by Commissioner Emad to recommend that the Board of Supervisors approve the project as described in the Resolution of Approval.
The motion passed by the roll call vote: 4-3 (Commissioners Hansis, Kelly and Murguia voted no).
Obviously, this amendment will be addressed at a future Board of Supervisors meeting.
It is critical that as many concerned citizens appear at that meeting and voice your opinion........it is YOUR neighborhood, after all!
We will do our best to post the date/time of that meeting, so keep checking www.humboldtccrd.org
October 16, 2008 Planning Commission Meeting:
This was a poorly attended meeting. The items of interest were the three Humboldt County Local Coastal Plan Update Amendments.
At the previous Planning Commission meeting the commissioners had asked staff to draw up a "do not wish to consider" proposal for all three amendments to be forwarded to the Board of Supervisors.
Below are the specific amendments under consideration:
1. Barry/Chisum/Peterson Amendment: a secondary access from Humboldt Hill Road to Tompkins Hill Road and Highway 101
2. Miller/Norton/Pierson Amendment: A secondary access connecting Humboldt Hill Road and Loma Avenue by way of London Drive
3. Reardon Amendment: connecting Elk River Road to Bassford Road and to the Winzler-Slack peoperty behind Westgate Drive
These three amendments were continually "carried over" from the August 7, 2008 meeting until the October 16, 2008 Planning Commission meeting. At this meeting the Planning Commission agreed to inform the Board of Supervisors that they (Planning Commission) DID NOT wish to consider the proposed Miller/Norton/Pierson/Fraiser AND Reardon Amendments.
However, they will be revisiting the Barry/Chisum/Peterson Amendment after proper public notification at their December 4, 2008 meeting.
There was an issue regarding the public noticing process and unauthorized changes to agenda items without proper public notification. It is worthwhile reading the minutes of the October 16, 2008 meeting on the Community Development website: http://co.humboldt.ca.us/planning/ |
