Students seem to be experiencing some difficulties in balancing the work load for eighth grade and their extra-curricular activities. If you are having problems keeping up or the reading quizzes are wiping you out, try working SMARTER! Don't put reading off until after you have finished your other homework. Reading should be done when your brain is fresh and alert. Also use sticky notes to tag important items and make reflected comments as you read. It is going to make your reading journal assignment easier to complete after you finish reading and will help you to remember and comprehend the reading. Another suggestion is to read aloud. This forces you to concentrate on the material rather than skimming past it while your mind is thinking of other things. Try reading aloud to one of your parents, too. They love it when you need them and spend time with them. Make your mom's day; snuggle on the couch and enjoy an hour of closeness while completing your homework. Keep in mind whatever changes you make to your homework habits, not reading is not an option!!! CHANGE OF PLANS: We are starting Once and Future King by T.H. White on Monday, October 12th. Look for the bookmarks to guide you through the reading. If you bought your own copy, bring it to class every day to assist you in our discussions. |
