OFF THE RAILS!! Beaver Trip to York

November 6th 2010

Beavers will travel by train and visit the York Railway Museum - other activities may be slotted into the days programme depending on the weather etc.

A packed lunch and drink is to be brought along by the young people / leaders.
Cost per young person will be- £12.50

Leaders / Helpers FREE.

Please ensure you have enough leaders / CRB'd helpers for your group of young people. (Ratio of 1 adult - 6 beavers)

All monies / paperwork to be returned by the latest Friday 22nd October 2010

Please can you also kindly inform Steven Beever if your colony is intending to join the day out on beavers@huddersfieldnorth.co.uk

Also, does anyone have "Family and Friends railcards" we could borrow, this will help us get the best ticket prices for the trip.

Wales Explorer Weekend

There will be a weekend away in Wales for any Explorers in the District over the weekend of 29-31 October.

The programme will be to travel on Friday evening, Saturday a choice of a walk in the mountains or mountain biking. A Halloween event on Saturday evening and then a gentle Sunday meander in a Welsh town before heading home.

Cost will be no more than £35.

Interest to Steven Ainley asap please to assist with booking appropriately sized accommodation.

It would be preferred if all Units sending Explorers could arrange for leaders to come along too.

If other leaders (ie. non-Explorer leaders) want to partake also let Steven know.

Jamboree Fundraising - LaserZone

You might have noticed that the fundraising for the Jamboree contingent is well underway now. If not, where have you been?? Well here is another chance to get involved and have a damn good time along the way:
 
  • When: Saturday October 30th from 18:30 till 22:00
  • Where: LaserZone, 29 St John's Road, Huddersfield, HD1 5DX
  • Why: To raise funds for the 9 contingent members representing Hudds North at the Jamboree in Sweden next year - and to have an adrenaline filled few hours with your mates.
  • How much: £10 - these tickets may be used after the event if you are unable to attend on the evening - please discuss this with the organisers.

Jamboree Fundraising - Ceilidh & Hog Roast

Huddersfield North Jamboree fundraising team are holding a Ceilidh and Hog Roast at Bradley Wood on Saturday 18th September from 7pm - 11pm
 
Tickets are £7.50 for Adults, £5 for under 12's and for a group of four a ticket can be purchased for the bargain price of only £25.

2nd Annual District Scout Field Gun Race

A great opportunity for all the District Scout Groups to compete against each other.

2 Competing Teams of 6 Scouts will each dismantle a wooden Field Gun and carry it over and through obstacles – reassemble it and fire it to win.

Bring as many teams as you like.

We’ll be outside so clothing to suit.

There will be a Course Build then Heats, Semi Finals and the day will finish with the Grand Final

Uniform – Shirts & Group Neckers

Cost £1 per team member for refreshments paid on the day – Bring your own Packed Lunch

It will all happen on Saturday 11th September, starting at 10.00 and finishing at 16.00, at Bradley Woods

District Elements Challenge - 10th/11th July 2010

This event will take place at Silverwood Campsite on the 10th of July and is for all sections. For the young people it starts on Saturday morning. Arrival will be between 9.30am and 10.30am (more details to follow).

For Beavers and Cubs it is a one day event, ending between 8pm and 9pm. The cost for them will be £5.

Scouts and Explorers will be staying through until noon on Sunday. The cost for this will be £10.

Each participant will need to bring a packed lunch for the Saturday but the rest of the food is part of the event.

The weekend aims to bring all of the District together for some intersectional activities under the theme of the four elements (earth, wind, fire and water). More information and letters for you and your section will be made available towards the end of April.

Leaders will arrive on the Friday night for set up and a district social (see below). Most leaders will camp outside but there is some indoor accommodation.

District Leader and Family Social - 9th July 2010

This is linked to the Elements Challenge event so will also be held at Silverwood campsite.

On Friday the 9th of July we will have some time to set up but mostly the Friday night will be about Huddersfield North leaders having a chance to socialise. We would like to see as many leaders there as possible even if you can’t make the rest of the weekend. Setup will be from 6pm then the social will be from around 9pm. Costs will depend on what we choose to do. Suggestions welcome.

Any Leaders Weekend 4th - 6th June 2010

This is the warm(er) version of the February weekend so bask in the sun while you chat and throw yourself into basic outdoor pursuits.

Bring a hammock, sleep in a hedge or try out a new tent while you cook on open fires and build something big out of rope & poles. And when it gets dark we go to the pub! Come for the weekend or just a day or just an evening. Cost £5 for food plus the beer kitty. Directions to High Hoyland enclosed.

If you fancy a good gas and picking up some ideas come along – just drop me a email to say you’re coming

Scout Badge Day - 24th April 2010

This is soon after Easter holidays (info sheet for parents enclosed), please get it to parents before the Easter break.

We have a group of top UK Martial Arts instructors to give a full day introduction to the sport and the use of one of the best Sports Colleges in the area. Get your Scouts to come along and like last year gain a badge in a day.

St. George's Day Parade - 23rd April 2010

This year’s St. George’s Day Parade will take place on Friday 23rd April at Lindley Methodist Church.

Please arrange for everyone to meet in their groups at 6.00 pm in the recreation ground off Daisy Lea Lane, Lindley (just below the clock tower). We will then parade through Lindley to the Methodist Church, where the service will start at 7.00 pm. Please ask everyone to attend in full uniform.

Following the service, please re-group in the Infants School playground to parade back to Daisy Lea Lane before a formal dismissal at approximately 8.15 p.m.

The rehearsal for colour parties will be held at Lindley Methodist Church at 6.30 pm on Thursday 22nd April. Would you please ask all your colour parties to attend this rehearsal. Uniform is not required for rehearsal.
