Navy Arvo

Hi fellow club members, all the best for the new year!

The 2nd day of January brought a weather challenged day to say the least for our first navy arvo of 2010, this didn't stop the appearance of a couple of first time ships and the reappearance of another one. After a false start, a very quick pack up, a very heavy 15 minutes of rain and a new years drink in the club we recovered to the lake side to get on with our afternoon of boating in the warm sun.

We welcomed Steve with 1/72nd scale HMAS Swan & his partially constructed 2 metre long Engel U-Boat,

John with his 1/72nd scale HMS Fearless including it's little RC assault boat,

Phil showed his 1/72nd scale Revell Flower Class corvette HMS Arabis for the first time,

Mick also had Admiral Kuznetsov with him having now installed prop shafts and propellers,

and

Chris our Merman brought HMS Leed Castle back for another run.
(no need for rescue missions this time!)

Also running on the day were HMAS Parramatta - which encountered no electrical issues this time, HMAS ANZAC looking fantastic on the water after it's recent appearance in Model Boats Magazine, FNS Tornio following an engine replacement over the Christmas break and HMAS Sydney which continues to have more fittings attached each time it runs and will hopefully be complete some time this year!

Some other ships attended but due to one reason or another stayed within cars (mainly the changeable weather!), these included Sea Shadow, Nanuchka and S-100, maybe we will again see them on the water in March. Sailing was enjoyed by all on what ended up being a beautiful flat lake, the bows cutting cleanly through the still waters and some very happy captains watching their ships with pride.

With 2 months to out next Navy Arvo - 6th March, I hope your shipyards are running at full strength and we will see your new ships next time round.

All the best

Craig Taylor
