The Junior High program, for students in the 6th, 7th & 8th grade, utilizes a program called "Edge". In many ways Junior High Students are on the EDGE. We are providing them tools to have an EDGE on life. Students meet in a group environment for gathering activities, teachings and prayer. EDGE is designed to meet the educational, spiritual, emotional, and social needs of young adolescents. The six-semester EDGE curriculum provides systematic and complete catechesis for our middle school youth while providing opportunities for evangelization and transformation as well. These topics are: Scripture, Creed, Church, Sacraments, Prayer, Social Justice.
The EDGE curriculum is a Life Teen resource. The goals of the program are:
1. Allowing early adolescents to experience the Word of God and the Eucharist in a deeper and more profound way 2. Creating a positive experience of the Catholic Church for early adolescents 3. Helping middle school youth gain an understanding and appreciation of what the Catholic Church teaches and believes 4. Incorporating the Catholic Church’s vision of social justice and peace into their spiritual life 5. Developing an identity in middle school youth as a vital and visual presence within the parish community. We believe catechesis goes further when our youth group leaders are involved in the lives of the youth. Our resources are written to empower our Team Leaders to interact with the youth and build safe, Christ-centered friendships.
This year we will be discussing Sacred Scripture. We will be presenting an overview of the books of the Bible, how they were written and how to read them. The middle school youth will have an opportunity to become familiar with the Bible and be exposed to several ways of praying Scripture.
We strongly recommend that your child bring a Bible each week. Our hope is that by the end of this year, your middle school youth will feel more comfortable with reading Scripture frequently.
